My mom and I went on the hunt for cheap clothes for the kids. We figured that the boys could all have similar shirts and then we'd just find something for Megan. Then we found these shirts though. They were on clearance at Sears, and were cute, so mom bought them. It then occurred to her that maybe I could make Megan a dress out of one. So we bought one more.

This dress was really simple to make, and looked cute in the pictures, but now that it's been washed it needs some extra work.

To make the dress, I just cut off the collar and the sleeves, added some bias tape along the top (I'd rather work with bias tape than with trying to hem knit fabric), and added ribbons for straps. There is a button in the back, and it still needs a little piece of velcro back there to hold it together a bit better. I made little bows for the front, and my Mom sewed those and the buttons on for me (I hate sewing by hand).

I didn't have any fray check at my parents house, and forgot about that before washing it. So it came out of the wash a tangled mess. I will probably have to remove the ribbon straps and start over with some new ribbon. They frayed so badly that they aren't long enough to tie anymore.

The pictures turned out adorable. We are all happy with the color combo and the matching kiddos. I put a white, ruffly diaper cover underneath the dress, which looked really cute. It (the dress) was probably shorter than I would have liked, but she can pull it off since she's still just a baby.
