One more argument: "The fact is. . . Up until a few years ago, virtually everyone, including the most liberal Christian, KNEW the tattoo was clearly forbidden by the Word of God."
This rather silly argument completely forgets the fact that up until a few years ago, virtually everyone, including the most liberal Christian, KNEW x, y, or z. Orthodoxy is simply not an excuse for conviction.
I 'm a christian and I have tattoos. One done before I was Jesus follower and one after. My recent one is the symbol for the 'voice of the martyrs' with Heb 13:3 under it. I never felt God was saying not to do it and in fact I have had many people ask me about my tattoo and want to know more. I think God uses different people in different ways.

"Feelings" are deceptive. I firmly believe that your feelings should spring out of the (right) principles in your heart. Any feeling contrary to the Word of God is not an 'acceptable' feeling. I recently read Deuteronomy 13 and it talks about this very thing... I'll probably write a post about it.
